Courage! (144/365)

May 24, 2015 – Why courage?

Because it takes courage to put these things out on your (not mine) front lawn 🙂

I’d like to know why they came in vogue (and when). They still hold amusement for me, and when we lived in our first apartment in downtown Vancouver I bought a pair, much to Kirk’s utter disgust. He has a particularly strong hatred of the things….perhaps that’s why I bought them those 25’ish years ago.

We lived on the third floor of a high-rise building in Vancouver’s West End and they graced our balcony for a couple of years, providing me with amusement and Kirk with irritation, and finally I agreed to dispose of them.

How we got rid of them was actually also amusing, to watch anyway.

We had a few things to get rid of, and we decided to try the sidewalk recycling program.

We took the flamingos, a long cedar planter box, a couple of cases of empty beer bottles, and a stack of university textbooks and placed them on the edge of the sidewalk below our apartment and ran back up to see if they disappeared or if we would have to retrieve them and take them to the Salvation Army or some other place.

Within minutes a couple walked by and stopped to peruse the pile. They took the flamingos and walked off laughing and carrying them high.

The flamingos were the first to go!

Then a rubbie came by and grabbed the bottles.

A car came to a quick stop, the driver jumped out and opened the hatch, and in went the planter.

A few minutes later a woman walking down the street stopped to look at the books….and took the lot.

Recycling at its finest!

No Exit

I'd love to hear from you :)

Good job on the recycling aspect, Paige. Mom and Dad had these on the lawn for a number of years and then,…..they disappeared. Likely, Dad disposed of them at the dump. I must say that I was in awe of them when Mom and I experienced them firsthand in Florida on a vacation.
