Happy New Year – It’s a Thing

by The Philosophical Fish

Yes, it’s that time of year again.

The time of year when I express to my best friend, on the other side of the country, that I care deeply for her, miss her, and wish she would move back to the right (left) side of the country.

How do I do that?

I send her flowers, of course.

Well, most years, with the exception of cases where Mother Nature foils me through unexpectedly mild followed by unexpectedly harsh winter conditions, which doesn’t happen too too often out here in Lotusland, I share images of January 1st cherry blossoms.

Last year was one of those unfortunate years when a mild fall and a late winter freeze destroyed the few flowers popping out on my old trustworthy go-to ornamental cherry tree near Lonsdale. I wasn’t sure what I was going to find today since the last two summers have been pretty harsh on plant life, and last winter was a bit nippier than usual. Happily, it has pulled through another year and stepped up to help me help my bestie celebrate a New Year. So, it’s the start of a New Year, 2024, and I am making yet another effort to demonstrate what a good friend I am to my very best friend.

We also took advantage of a not-rainy day to do an 11km hike in the canyon and enjoy the bright green lawn of moss under the trees. I do miss not having snow this year, but I also recognize that the West Coast is more prone to green Christmases and New Years, and that’s what makes this place special. There were more than a few people out walking their dogs on the trails, and I saw a few regulars out there.

Happy New Year, welcome to 2024, I hope it is a year filled with happiness, fulfilment, and excellent adventures for all.

I'd love to hear from you :)
