A little bit of competitive obstacle croquet – Day 6 of the “bike” trip (194/365/2023)

by The Philosophical Fish

We all slept late this morning before fuelling with some coffee and breakfast. Hans packed up and headed out mid-morning to ride for another couple of days on his way back to Prince George.

Kirk and Derek and I drove down to Canadian Tire and picked up a few packs of tie downs before picking up the U-Haul and driving over to the motorsports dealer to retrieve the Ninja. The ramp on the truck made loading it waaaay easier than it had been loading it onto Derek’s truck with one of a pair of 2’x6′ tractor ramps he has. That had been an exercise in push – BRAKEANDHOLD – push – BRAKEANDHOLD…and so on. A moving ramp is so much easier to push a 500lb bike up!

Back the house and load the other bike and figure out best tie-downs without breaking the wooden rails (something cracked and we backed off).

It amused me to discern a similarity between my brother and myself. We both like to tie things down really tightly! I’m usually tying things on top of the truck, like kayaks and paddle boards….he was happily ratcheting that strap until something cracked and we all looked at each other alarmed and said “That’s probably enough!”

Ironically, it was almost more challenging trying to figure out how to strap down the rest of our gear so that it wouldn’t fly around int he back of the truck as we drove a twisty highway home. The cab didn’t have enough room for the luggage, so we had to get inventive with bungee cords and luggage straps. But it worked.

And my brother was eyeing all that room and trying to think about what he could unload and send off with me….. ‘nothing please and thank you….

And then it was time for more family fun and not-so-friendly “obstacle croquet”. it was a mean course with wickets strategically placed under prickly low hanging trees, in the rough bush, edged up against trees, and with items like pieces of wood or sprinklers in front of them.

And it was a long course.

Why play games normally?

I'd love to hear from you :)
