It’s the little things that matter (157/365/2023)

by The Philosophical Fish

Just the tip of a deer fern, still unfurling, in a ray of light making tit past the forest canopy. It was lit up brightly at the side of the trail as I was walking to the hatchery this morning and caught my eye. I’ve noticed much more in the past few months, things that I probably wasn’t noticing the past few years.

I’m hearing the birds more, no, not hearing them….I’m listening to them now, and I’m appreciating them.

And I’m seeing little things that I would have walked past before, because I feel a bit calmer in some ways. Make no bones about it, I’m still stressed to the nines, but it’s somehow less “heavy” than it was a year ago.

The little things are easy to overlook when you are stressed and not paying attention to the beauty of the world around you, like the delicate curl at the tip of a deer fern.

I'd love to hear from you :)
