Blurry… but Beautiful

That’s sort of how the future feels…doesn’t it? Vaccinations are increasing, case numbers are dropping; we are far from out of the woods, but it feels like the future is more tangible than it was just a month or more ago.

How many of us have come to appreciate certain things that we maybe didn’t think we would?

We’ve had a terrible year, all of us, in some way or other. But it’s also been a year to appreciate slowing down in some ways. A year to appreciate friends and family and colleagues maybe a little bit more. A year to learn something new, be it cooking, baking, an art, or some other skill. A year to go for walks and explore our neighbourhoods rather than just rush through them. A year to appreciate the community of people we live close to.

Despite the loss, there have been moments of gratitude.

It’s also been a year to recognize those who might be more than we want in our lives, a year to divest some of the burdens we carry or toxic relationships that we can do without.

It’s been a year to reflect….a lot…on a lot!

The future seems somehow closer these days. But what does that future look like, exactly?

How many of us want to return to our offices in the same capacity?

How many people have realized that they weren’t happy doing what they were doing and this year+ long shift of gears has provided some clarity of that fact?

How many of those will leave their job to find something more rewarding?

The future is blurry, but I hope we all find some things to change for the better in our lives. If nothing else…I am definitely looking forward to some fall field work, and the first stop on my travel itinerary will be….I hope…Bella Coola 🙂

Until then, I’ll stop and smell the lavender….
