Squamish Estuary

by The Philosophical Fish

We were both cagey today and decided to drive up to Squamish to go for a walk in a different environment.

And to get beer.

But that was only a secondary thought that came up once we drove into town and I remembered the delicious sours from a craft brewery in Squamish that we can only occasionally get our hands on in our local beer & wine shop. We figured out where the brewery was located, what they had in stock, and popped in and out quickly to grab three different treats for later.

We drove out the the estuary spit and I berated myself for not grabbing a hair tie on the way out the door. Squamish is the name of the town, it’s the name of the river, it’s the name of the people, and it’s also the name of the wind.

Note to self, toss a few hair ties in the glove compartment for next time.

The day couldn’t decide what it wanted to be…..rain…sun…something in between. Fine by us either way. Up and back the spit, a peaceful trail that wound along the estuary, it made for a better day than sticking around home.

Along the spit was a memorial, and on the memorial a quote that I’ve always appreciated.

“Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming “Wow! What a Ride!”

Hunter S. Thompson

And it’s been a long time since I’ve seen one of those fuzzy little panda caterpillars, so that was a fun little treat 🙂
