Feels like fall

by The Philosophical Fish

I’d have to say that we haven’t exactly had the greatest spring or summer, and we only had a short spell of heat, with things almost always cooling off at night. But the air is different the past few days.

The rain was welcome in that it washed the smoke out of the air, and we can all appreciate that. But it also brought with it that feeling of fall, and the vegetation is starting to show the change a little more obviously.

Our big maple tree is starting to shift its colour spectrum. The perennials in the garden are starting to look a little worse for wear. And the truck and driveway were covered with a blanket of cedar bits after the first good winds of the season.

On today’s short walk we wandered through Murdo Frazer Park. The tennis courts and the pickle ball courts were full of puddles and empty of people. Just one lone fellow practicing his soccer kicks in an otherwise abandoned place.

No golfers at the pitch and putt….balls would land with a splat and walking the course would be squishy.

The trails were sparsely populated by locals walking their dogs; everyone ready with a friendly smile and a hello.

The local creeks are swollen with water making its way out of the saturated ground. We had a lot of water come out of the sky the past few days, one of the facts-of-life when you live in the shadow of the North Shore Mountains.

Murdo Frazer Park is home to a caretaker’s cabin that I could probably photograph every day for a year and no two images would ever be the same. Thus I can almost never help taking a few shots, particularly when the wind is absent, the water is calm, and the recent rains have made the scene seem so much more saturated with deep colours.

Such a perfect spot, which is probably why it’s been used in more than one television production – https://moviemaps.org/locations/1ag

Fall has arrived.
