Whatcha’doin’?

If you haven’t met Gizmo before, here’s your introduction. This little monster has coexisted with us for 28 years now (he’s 32 years old, best guess). Although he’s always been a going concern, a noisy problem, and a constant disruption, he’s been largely problem free. In the past couple of years he’s finally been showing his age (life expectancy is 25-30 yrs) and he is now on twice daily heart medications, which poses a problem for travelling since it’s not quite so simple as asking someone to toss a pill in some cheese to your dog, or hiding a pill in the cat’s food.

A parrot is a dinosaur with feathers, wrapped in the attitude of a two year old, with the bite of a small shark.

So…it gets complicated.

Despite all of that he is still chugging along strongly and keeping us on our toes. He still runs around on his cage when he gets excited, shrieks at the top of his lungs when he feels it is necessary, flings his food about with the pickiness of a toddler, and destroys boxes with abandon when he feels so inclined.

Regardless of the book value on his life expectancy, I have a hunch he will be with us for a few years yet….continuing be disruptive and entertaining all at the same time.

And, if you put him on the counter and open a drawer and you have a captive and curious audience to photograph 🙂
