August 6, 2016 – Sometimes something no longer wanted, something broken, something faded, but still loved, sometimes those items can have a second chance at life rather than end up as garbage.
Like this broken pitcher put to a new use as a little bright bit of art in a community garden along Ambleside Beach.
No longer used in someone’s home, but still providing a little bit of cheer on an old fence, making passers-by smile at its cheer.
We were back down at the Harmony Arts Festival at Ambleside this afternoon, I wanted to go back and look again, particularly at the smoked raku porcelain that I’ve been coveting for years. I’ve been wanting a piece by this particular artist for a few years. Every year at the Circle Craft Christmas Market I stop and want. This is the second year I’ve stood and wished at the Harmony Festival.
Today I finally broke down and bought a piece that called out to me in particular. Her works echo beach stones, river rocks. Shades of white and grey and smoke. They have an elemental feel that is soft and ageless, minimal.
Why oh why did she have to be showing her art here…..
Ah well, it was inevitable.
It will stay in its wrapping until it has a secure home away from cats, somewhere it can be showcased in a special spot that is yet to be determined.
So until I unwrap it, enjoy this happy jug on a fence 🙂
