Day 193 – When typing took effort and concentration…

by The Philosophical Fish

July 11, 2016 – Remember when text was something on a page?

When it was an object, not an action, it was a noun, not a verb?

Remember when typing required you to take a class because format was important?

Remember when typing was an important skill?

Remember when typing took effort, because those damned keys were hard to bang down well?

Wonderful – so many memories! My mum could touch type – fast! – almost to the end of her life. In addition to your list, I remember her explaining how to calculate the number of spaces needed to centre a title on a page.

I learned to type on one of those when I was quite young, it was my dad’s. When I went to work and had an electric one it seemed so easy.

oh yes, I also learned on one of these. I am very fast and efficient typist because of these types of typewriters. Do you remember when they came all "modern" with a whiteout ribbon included lol

I so remember the typewriter years. I vaguely remember changing the ribbon? and later that sweet little electric model with the ball that bounced up and hit the paper with the right letter? Awesome. But because of those years, I’m a very fast keyboard typist!

Thank you everyone 🙂

[https://www.flickr.com/photos/33929747@N07] Either I never learned to calculate the spaces….or I’ve deleted that memory from my personal hard-drive 😉

[https://www.flickr.com/photos/finlap] I remember when my Mom got an electric typewriter, I loved how easy the keys were to press, it was so very cool!

[https://www.flickr.com/photos/sue90ca] I LOVED that white ribbon!!!! 🙂
