March 9, 2015 – The sun was full of heat outside today, but once it left the outside deck it cooled off quickly so the cats and I retreated inside to catch a bit more of its warmth.
Milo is rarely in any of my photos since he’s so darned difficult to photograph. He usually comes off as black, but he’s not, he’s actually chocolate brown but, unless he’s in the sun, that never shows up. So this was a rare opportunity to get a clear shot of his colour.
These early summery days are treasures. There are still technically a couple of weeks left in winter, yet it already feels like summer. It can’t last, tomorrow looks to be clouding over, and then there is rain in the forecast later in the week.
We do need it though, and it seems just incredible that we had to water the garden yesterday. There is, quite literally, no snowpack on the mountains, and that does not bode well for the coming months. In the 25 years we have lived here, I’ve never seen the mountains this bare.
Unless we have a terribly wet spring and summer, the reservoirs will likely become depleted, watering restrictions will be extreme, the forests will be in danger of major fires, and the fish int he rivers will be subjected to environmental extremes.
We can’t know what Mother Nature will bring, but for now, we can tilt our faces to the sun, ignore the shadows, and enjoy the warmth.
