2-52-2014: It's Spring in Vancouver ;)

January 11, 2014 – I always joke that it’s spring as soon as January arrives. It’s not, but there are definitely many things that are showing signs of growth: tree buds, flower buds, and a tree that I can count on every year to show me signs of spring.

This particular tree is planted in a place where its roots are kept warm so it tosses out flowers earlier than most. That said, there are flower buds on others too…

The rest of the country is starting to feel the grips of an icy winter blast slowly loosen, but not much really.

And then there is Vancouver.

Lotus-land.

At this time of year we tend to be fully entrenched in monsoon season, and last night we definitely felt the punch of a good winter wet. As I was lying in bed I was listening to the pounding rain, outside our bedroom window, and on our roof.

Our roof!

That’s kinda cool!

I love the sound of rain at night, particularly when it is on the roof of our new home. The first time we had a rainstorm I didn’t know what the sound was. For just shy of 20 years we in a condo, on the first floor, with two more floors between us before there was a roof for rain to pound on.

So I quite enjoyed that.

We aren’t out of the woods, all of this rain is finally bringing snow to the ski hills just above us, and that snow line could drop down and give us some winter still.

I hope so 😉

I'd love to hear from you :)

I was totally expecting photos like that during our really cold snap. I’m surprised that neither you nor Kim posted any. 🙂

I now have a mission, to document the spring-like nature of January in Vancouver!

I don’t have Mom to torment with tales of crocuses and daffodils poking up in January, actually, I left my daffodils down at the condo, but I’ll plant some more so I can allocate that torment elsewhere 😉
