33-52-2013: Clack!

August 18, 2013 – It was a pretty quiet week. After nine days on the motorcycles that was just fine with us. I didn’t even pick up a camera all week. And other than installing a new smoked windscreen, the big bikes didn’t move this week. I did ride the scooter, and after almost 3500km on the Ninja, I had a bit of adjusting to do when I got back on Pee Wee. It’s easy to overcompensate when you suddenly jump on something 300lbs lighter.

So, to make up for the lack of photography, I picked up two today. I used my modern Lumix LX-5 and took a shot of the cutest new addition to my vintage camera collection – the Clack!

I was hunting around on eBay and somehow picked this thing up for a paltry $8.00! ($17.00 after shipping and exchange). $8.00!! Complete with a fabulous fitted leather case! All the others I came across were in the $100+ range, some in much worse shape. I just got lucky on this one.

What a great name!

It sounds like it should make a funny noise when the shutter is pressed, but it doesn’t. That’s almost disappointing.

I really should run a roll of film through it at some point. I have a fair amount of 120 in the freezer, and the camera is in good working order, with a clear and clean lens, and the inside is spotless. It would be fascinating to see what would come out of it. It has one shutter speed, one aperture, and that’s about it. But darn if it isn’t cute!

Sometimes the old analogue stuff really is the best. Simple takes all the science out of the equation and just forces you to see, think about the light, compose, and click (or clack in this case). Uncluttered and uncomplicated, just the way all things should be.
