March 15, 2012 – It’s been a long and somewhat tiring week, and I still have a long day ahead of me tomorrow. Monday was busy doing some reviews, Tuesday involved a very political meeting to try and help sort out a program that is going to come out soon, and which is an environmental hot topic. Tuesday afternoon saw a run for the ferry and a drive up to the North Island where we were supposed to meet with some industry people and visit a facility. The weather turned on us overnight and Wednesdays visit was cancelled, leaving us scratching for some justification for the trip, which we managed. We were blown around, rained on, snowed on, and I slept terribly last night because the wind and rain sounded like it was going to come through the roof at any moment. Up early this morning and back on the road in driving rain to visit another one of our facilities and speak with the manager about possibly trying some new methodology this fall. We got buy in, so that was great. Back on the road, lunch with a colleague in Nanaimo, then a very rough ferry ride home.
And then my fuzzballs ran to meet me as I came in the door. I’m always glad to be home to my furry monsters after a few days away. And they are always happy to see me too.
And after a glass of wine, with a cat curled up behind my head on the back of the couch, and another curled up next to me, and I reflect on the week, it didn’t go as planned, but it was still a great trip and I realize, yet again, that I love my job, because it’s never the same two days in a row. And even though things often don’t go as planned, they are always interesting because I have so much freedom to make this job whatever I want it to be.
And I get to come home to those wonderful eyes. Isn’t he a looker?
