Day 299 – An Apple a Day?

299/365 (Oct 26, 2011) – I was poking around the kitchen drawers this evening and this rattled into sight. What’s so special about a can opener? Lots!

This tiny little juice can opener is about 30-40 years old. One came in every package of lunch sized Sun Rype apple juice cans. My Granny used to have these little cans of juice around and they were part of any summer beach-lunch. They predated pull tabs, how else were you supposed to open your can of juice before tetra-paks? This is how! Blunted just enough to be kid-safe.

When I helped clean out my Granny’s house there were several of these in the kitchen drawers (she was a hoarder) and I couldn’t help but grab one as a reminder of summers in the Shuswap. I’d all but forgotten about those juice cans until I saw these little openers.
