Day 249 – Leather, cotton, and cat

249/365 (Sept 6, 2011) – I feel the same way, like a lump. Hot, tired and I’d just like to curl up and go to sleep. I was working out at a hatchery today, rode there on the motorcycle loaded with big, heavy rubber chest waders, rain jacket, rubber boots, rubber overalls, several changes of clothes, lunch, camera. It was a lovely ride, although cold – at Rolley Lake I was completely enveloped in a fog bank and life was very dark through the dark smoked visor. The fog settled out as a fine mist on the visor, and when I came out into that low lying ball of fire on the horizon the water sparkled like tiny gemstones. Pretty, but difficult to see through.

Spent the day out at the hatchery helping out with an egg take and taking kidney samples for disease screening. Hot, sweaty in waders, big beautiful red Chinook. It was great. The ride home was hot as the temperature out in the Valley was around 30C and once home I had to madly pull together a presentation for the opening night of our fall boating class.

I didn’t so much as ‘go to bed’ as I collapsed into it at the end of the day.
