Day 212 - Sometimes the Best Plans are No Plans

212/365 (July 31, 2011) – We didn’t have a lot of things planned for this weekend. The workshop I have to put on in a week has me a bit stressed out and so we had to make a trip to a couple of locker rooms to check on equipment etc. Plus the anxiety makes me want to stick close to home. So we did a bit of running around and agreed to go for a quick run to Squamish for a coffee, and then planned to come home for a BBQ and some wine on the deck. We’d been invited out to join some friends at a movie, but didnt’ really feel like leaving the North Shore.

We had a strange ride to Squamish. Normally the traffic on that road flies by at a zillion miles an hour and the traffic can be heavy. On the way up I think only a handful of cars passed us, and only three bikes. I only recall one driver making a serious attempt on my life via aggressive driving, and that was at the end heading for the ferries. Everyone else was riding/driving at these weirdly passive paces. It might have something to do with the fact that abut 10 cars were impounded over the course of less than two hours on Thursday afternoon/evening for excessive speeding on the Sea to Sky highway (the highway we were riding). Or maybe everyone was already at their destination. Dunno, but it was weird.

We ran into a rider we met last year, chatted a bit, then got a text from a friend on her boat in Snug Cove on Bowen Island asking if we wanted to join her and a couple of other friends for dinner. We jumped on the bikes and headed back to Horseshoe Bay, hopped on the ferry (I love the ‘bikes are first on and first off’ rule), and spent a lovely evening on the water. This is one of the floating cabins at Snug Cove that can be rented. I just love it, it would be so much fun to live at the dock for a week in such a cute little place.

Eventually we had to leave, so we took the last ferry home and crawled into bed with a glass of wine.

None of it was planned, it just all sort of ‘happened’. And since we didn’t cross a bridge to downtown, ‘technically’ we didn’t leave the North Shore…

I love those kinds of days!

Even when I have that constant feeling of being slightly agitated, ti’s good to find a way to at least partially shelve it for a bit.

Day 212 - Sometimes the Best Plans are No PlansOh, it will all be fine, I am prone to angst. In the end everything usually works out well, I just hate the lead up since it;s been a couple of years since I have done this workshop.

Day 212 - Sometimes the Best Plans are No PlansI was half expecting to read that this is the front door of a house-boat! In any case, it is an interesting picture.
