Pain pills

by The Philosophical Fish

I have bad knees. I have had one bad knee (left) since I took a pretty good spill on the ski hill when I was 17.

The good knee (right) eventually became bad after 40 years of favouring the injured knee.

So the “good” knee is the one that I typically snap a few times a day when it locks up. But it’s never given me that much grief. At least not until I did something to it last summer. It took a long time to get back up to running and about two weeks ago I jammed it up again and have been waiting for it to feel better. It’s been pretty good the past few days so I had today set as a run-test day.

Except last night, wen we came home from Portland, I walked into the house, put the toe of my right boot against the heel of my left boot and pulled my left leg upward to pull out of the boot. And something went rather horribly wrong. My left knee felt like it was being….pulled apart a bit.

It was….unpleasant.

And it got more unpleasant as the evening went on.

And it was still unpleasant this morning. Unpleasant enough that I was not inclined to walk to the hatchery, int eh dark, on forest trails with hills. So it was a work from home day.

Oh, also, my left shoulder has been screwed up for a month or so. Not a new thing, it happened a year or two ago and eventually worked itself out.

And that’s what kind of day it was.

This getting older thing is not for the faint of heart.
