That sounds like a fabulous book title, don’t you think?
Alas, I have no fiction to share today, just a couple of highlights for the garden today.
I pulled out my magnificent Crocosmia ‘Lucifer’ plants a few years ago. They were amazing, and the hummingbirds loved them, but they got so damned big that we couldn’t see the rest of the garden since I’d put them in a less that optimal location….for us, that is.
So I’ve replaced them with a much better behaved variety of Crocosmia….a pretty little one that stands about 18 inches high (instead of 4 feet!) and has gorgeous open flowers in a fabulous shade of flame. The variety is called Emily MacKenzie and I’ve loved them since seeing them in someone else’s garden a few years back. it took me a year or two to figure out what they were, exactly.
I suppose I could have knocked on the person’s front door and asked, but I was on a run at the time.
What I think is so cool is that the flowers will be orange, but the sepals are purple.
Fun fact…purple and orange are complementary colours.
Nature is an artist.

Oh. The pumpkin part?
It appears that my insanely growing pumpkin vine, which I clearly planted in a stupid location…having never grown one before…and thinking this might be a one off….has a baby on the way.
Maybe I will have a pumpkin come Halloween….or maybe just something to make a pumpkin loaf from.
Time will tell.
