Shock and fear…..

by The Philosophical Fish

I have tried zucchini plants in the past, out in the front yard, but I’ve never been successful because there really isn’t enough sun for zucchini to be happy.

Since I had put two big raised planters upstairs on the deck, where it does get sunny and oh so freaking hot, I brought up a fairly large post and planted two zucchini seeds in it.

I don’t remember what kind I bought, something compact and appropriate for a container. It was a whim and I wasn’t holding my breath.

However, in the past two weeks, the plant has exploded into massive leaves (though still a compact plant overall) and there are some flowers near the base. I looked into the depths of the plant this afternoon and was surprised to see some potential future squash.

Still no guarantee because I don’t know if they have been fertilized or not….and I’ve had them wither and fall off when I thought I was going to get fruit. But this feels a bit more hopeful…..and a bit scary…because I have counted 13 little potential zucchinis in there….and the plant has barely gotten going.

I’m not even a really big zucchini fan, but there’s always chocolate zucchini bread to make.

Stay tuned.

I love this! A new perspective/location brings new hope and you can freeze up the grated zucchini so you can spread out the chocolate zucchini bread over the year!
