It was a good day,….. hot, but not too hot…. to tidy up some things in the garden and do some water feature maintenance. I always love my little sempervivum plants that have crowded themselves together along the front of the pond.

There are still days that I wish I only had a little postage stamp sized garden, because it would be too much easier to maintain…..but I do admit that I also like the space we have…and then there are other days when I wish I had a massive space to really do some serious landscaping.
Because our home faces north and east, and because we live under the shadow of some massive cedar and hemlock and maple trees, we have a LOT of shade. That means that I struggle to grow some of the things that I’d like to.
On the flip side, it means that I can grow ferns really well, and I really love ferns. I have western sword ferns, deer ferns, maidenhair ferns, lady ferns, hard shield ferns, soft shield ferns, Hart’s tongue fern’s, Japanese holly ferns, oyster ferns, and these lovely autumn ferns that open up a rusty edged green colours and gradually turn full green as the summer progresses.
Everything is a tradeoff.
