Picture in Picture

by The Philosophical Fish

Sometimes I take a photo with a specific goal, and then I get the image into Photoshop and see something I didn’t see through the lens.

Like this.

The original image was a lot more zoomed out, on a developing bract of my Bear’s Breeches plant. The “flowers” are incredibly interesting, but spiky, yet pretty when they are finally fully developed. I love the texture, the veining, the shades of green and white.

But when I brought this image up on the screen, all I could focus on was the tiny little ant on one of the edges.

So I pared everything else away in such a way that you can’t even really tell what the plant is, because it’s just an environment that this little ant is travelling.

It never ceases to amaze me what can be seen if you stop and look closely.
