Quarry Rock

by The Philosophical Fish

In 2019, my bestie came out to visit and we had a week filled with hikes and yard work and more hikes….apparently I slightly broke her.

One of those hikes was up to this spot, the top of Quarry Rock, above Deep Cove.

That time, as she reminded me today, I’d said something along the lines of “I’m going to come here more often“.

Today we did the hike again….I’ve not been here again since the two of us last puffed our way up the stair-master of a trail.

Apparently I did not follow through on my intent.

In fairness, there was COVID, and then the trail was closed for some time as too many people were plugging things up. And then, last fall, there was a rather significant rainfall that blew out a few bridges as well as some of the homes on the road below. Now there is also no street parking for anyone but residents, and the parking lot at Panorama Park is pay parking, with a maximum stay of 3 hours. They are definitely managing things a bit more in the small community, and that’s not a bad thing.

Since we were last here, the District also changed the entry to the trail and combined it with the Baden Powell trailhead, which thoroughly confused me until a friendly local asked if that’s what I was looking for and pointed us back a half block. I asked if it “used” to be further down and he said “yes“.

I was happy knowing I wasn’t totally losing my mind.

We appreciated that the rain held off until we were on the bottom third of the hike back down.

It was a good day ☺️

And as far as I can tell, I did not break my bestie.

But we still have two more days to work on that…..
