Fun night.
Seven hours in the ER yesterday evening.
It’s scary when things hurt in unexpected ways, but when they exceed the pain threshold and it’s later in the day it’s time to take a drive and appreciate the fact that a visit to the ER, though time consuming, doesn’t break the bank in any way.
I’m fine.
The other half is suffering. But he will be on the mend in a day or two.
We’d narrowed it to a possible appendicitis on the way to the hospital. Other things were scary to think about. But no fever and no nausea. So didn’t sit right.
After bloodwork, and examination, and a CT scan….not appendicitis, no surgery necessary. And nothing life altering either. Whew.
On the upside, while waiting for the results of bloodwork and a CT scan are anxiety inducing….it also meant a free physical and a report that basically read:
- Heart ticking along beautifully
- Liver doing its job and looking good
- Spleen looks nice
- Lungs have great margins
- Pancreas pretty good
- Adrenal glads normal
- Gallbladder unexciting
- Kidney in good shape
- Appendix all normal
- Blood cell counts great
So….glass half full.
‘Here are your antibiotics, are you sure you don’t want some morphine? OK, stick to Advil then.’
20 hours later he wishes he’d accepted the morphine prescription.
Bed rest today, probably tomorrow too, and a lousy nurse with terrible bedside manners to suffer.
The pain will recede, but it will be an uncomfortable day or two.
And it just HAD to be the day they finally showed up to pour the driveway……
