yes…I am back into stopping for slugs on a regular basis….what can I say.

However, that was not the highlight of the day.

No, while I have a strange fascination with banana slugs and their slow and steady progress across the forest floor……wouldn’t it be cool to see the world through their perception? Little slimy sloths….

No, that is not the best part of the day.

The best part of the day was seeing the juvenile salmon at the hatchery have the door opened for them and watching them spill out and be on their way.

The staff at the hatchery have put their energy into collecting and tending bloodstock for months, spawning the adults and incubating the eggs over another few months, and then caring for, feeding, cleaning containers….raising their charges for up to another year. It’s a lot of effort and I admire the dedication that the staff have for their work. It’s hard work, and it’s also rewarding in so many ways.

Another generation of Capilano coho…on their way to the ocean, to return in the fall of 2027 and repeat their cycle of life.
