(238/366) Colour!

(238/366) Colour!

August 25, 2012 – It’s a running joke with anyone who knows me well – I wear a LOT of black. So today’s mission was to put some colour in my wardrobe. And shockingly, we succeeded!

Neither one of us really felt like going for a ride today, and we were interested in going to an open house for a new townhouse complex that we have been eyeballing since they broke ground early this year. It was lovely and about as close as we’ve come to finding what we have been looking for in close proximity to where we currently live and keep our boat.

After that we decided to play tourist and spend the afternoon shopping Robson street, something we haven’t really done in years. We wandered the shops, enjoyed a freshly made crepe while sitting on a new bench in the sun.

I have a closet full of black, white, and grey clothes. But mostly black. Kirk harasses me all the time for buying more black. So the project today was to find some colour to infuse the closet with. In one store, the saleswoman got me into a change room and made some good educated choices on what to bring me based on what she’d seen me take in. I jokingly said to Kirk “So, is this how you feel when I get you into a change room and keep bringing you things?” Yup.”

At one point she came along with a gorgeous blue/green top and said “Have you considered black?” I laughed and said “I’m not allowed!!!” She looked at Kirk, and he simply nodded.

At the end of the day I did end up with two plum coloured tops, a teal blue top, a red tank, and four scarves (red, lime green, teal blue, and plum). So I think I infused the closet with some great colour, and I can now go back to my usual choices.

And then there is a certain irony to come home and discover that Neil Armstrong has passed from this world into the greater universe beyond. He has left the world of colour and returned to the blackness that was the space he was the first to explore. R.I.P. Neil, you took my and earlier generations to places that we never thought we would explore. You turned fantasy into reality.

There is something to be said for black….
