February 25, 2012 – We dragged our behinds out of bed early today to make a breakfast with our volunteer group. One of our members had organized what turned out to be a fabulous two hour seminar following breakfast.
The speaker was a fellow who spent six years studying Kinesiology & sports medicine, following which he completed paramedic training. During his 25 years as paramedic he was the Medical Coordinator for events such as Vancouver Triathalon, Marathon, Indy, Apec, Octoberfest, Seafest, First Night, the English Bay Fireworks, and the 2010 Olympics. Last year he received an award for working the downtown core longer than anyone in BC Ambulance history. He is now semi-retired and teaches for groups that are interested.
It was patently obvious that he really enjoys the opportunity to pass on his knowledge and experience and he provided an amazing, informative, engaging, and entertaining two hours of basic first aid information that was relevant to boaters and those on dry land alike. If you ever see a seminar on first aid and the speaker is Dean Siemens, I highly suggest you attend, you won’t regret it.
