January 6, 2012- I saw an ad in the Globe and Mail recently. it had these amazingly wonderful colourful pieces of jewellery and a store I’d never heard of. I kept coming across the ads and was drawn to the brightly coloured enamelled patterns. Frey Wille. Beautiful jewellery, just beautiful! I looked it up and discovered it is an Austrian company and their first Canadian boutique gallery opened in Vancouver recently, and, terribly, it’s only two blocks from my office, so I had to go take a look. It felt more like an art gallery than a jewellery store.
It is like modern day cloisonné almost, but even more beautiful. The colours and patterns are so eye catching and unusual. Each one hand made, with such detail. I thought the white metal jewellery would be less costly than the gold. I was wrong. It’s rhodium, not silver, and more expensive than the 24k gold pieces. The prices aren’t for the faint of heart, not Tiffany’s prices, but definitely in that direction.
I think this working-in-downtown-Vancouver-thing is moderately dangerous when artfully beautiful objects like this are within easy reach.
