251/365 (Sept 8, 2011) – Today involved a sockeye egg take up in the Upper Pitt region. The weather was fabulous, the fish were plentiful and in good shape, and the water was clear and cold. Not every egg made it into the containers and the sunlight shining on them made them look like beautiful jewels siting on the rocks. These ones missed their opportunity at life, but they will provide food for something when we leave, so one loss is still a gain elsewhere in the biological web.
I’d never been to the Pitt in 20+ years of living here. I can’t believe such a beautiful place is so close.
This is work? This is my field office? I really, really, reallyreallyreally …. like this job!
Just remind me I said that in the middle of November when it’s pouring out…

Hmm, it looks a bit dry. Has anyone put any thought in how to create masses of water in the laboratory yet?

Yes, just wait six hours and it will be wet again…. Pitt Lake is tidal Janis, when we left in the morning it was quite well covered 😉 Messes up a lot of campers who don’t realize it and set up their tent on the beach.
