Day 188 - University Club

188/365 (July 7, 2011) – When I started my new job I was happy to get a window desk, but disappointed to be around the corner from the other four support biologists, and they have a better view, they can see the water. Less than a week later, on the front page of the newspaper, was a story that a new 35 story high-rise office building is to be constructed in that one water view corridor that they have. So, no great loss on my part in the end. The new building is to be built on the site of the University Club.

1021 West Hastings Street, Vancouver, BC.

Built in 1929, the building was designed by the same architects as the Vancouver Club with which the University Club has merged. Originally built for the Quadra Club, and for a time the headquarters of the local Royal Canadian Air Force Reserve, it was bought by the University Club in 1957.

The good news is that they are going to retain the original building facade in the construction. I hate when they tear down cool old buildings, but I like it when they at least incorporate them somehow.

Love the angle! Paige
I love window but I don’t really care about the view!
So long as there is natural light. I am good! :o)
Success with the new job!

Nice perspective. Glad to hear that this superb architecture will not be totally lost but what a shame that the view will be no more.
