Day 183 - Lower Joffre Lake

183/365 (July 2, 2011) – The weather gods were smiling on us today and three of us set out on motorcycles for a trip around the Duffy Lake loop (http://www.motowhere.com/maps/route/Duffey-Lake-Loop). It is a 600km ride through some beautiful country.

We set out from our place at about 10am (probably a little later than we should have in hind-sight) and took a stop in Squamish to have brunch. A quick pit-stop in Whistler and then on towards Pemberton, Mt. Currie, and Lilooet. We stopped for a rest break at Joffre Lakes Provincial Park and did the short walk into Lower Joffre Lake (pictured here).

After a somewhat jarring ride down some rough stretches of road, we had a late lunch/early dinner in Lilooet before setting off again towards Lytton. We encountered two black bears along the way, neither was particularly shy, but both were small and in good condition.

After a stretch in Lytton we joined the Trans Canada highway and refuelled in Boston Bar before riding the canyon back to Hope. At Chilliwack we separated from our friend and we continued on homeward (at a bit faster pace) to North Vancouver in the dark. We stopped for a hot drink in Langley and from there to North Vancouver we found ourselves riding in a bit of a downpour, neither of us prepared for it. So after a greasy ride through Vancouver we finally made it home, wet, sore, but happy for a great ride. Pretty sure I’ll be the one with the sorest back tomorrow.

The only other downside was a worrying white steam/smoke that was rising from beneath my handlebars on the last bit fo the ride home.

Something to worry about tomorrow.
