86/365 (March 27, 2010) – Expo 86 was here in Vancouver, I have strange memories of that. I had been seeing this guy, it was a completely toxic relationship and when it ended I started seeing Kirk. But Rob and I had planned to go to Expo 86, and for some strange reason he decided to patch things up enough and ask if I’d still like to go. I did, we did, and on the return trip we fought like cats and dogs and didn’t speak for many, many years following.
86 is also a phrase, as in, “Let’s 86 this place”. The phrase means let’s blow this place, get out of here. It can also be used as “86 it!” as in throw it out, toss it in the trash, get rid of it, forget it! One thought on how the phrase came to be is that it was originally “80-6” as opposed to “86.” 80-6 stood for where a body was disposed of when someone was murdered: 80 miles out and 6 feet under.
And I found an 86 on Day 86.
