Day 72 – Side by Each

by The Philosophical Fish

72/365 (March 13, 2010) – We went to a Giants game last night. They were playing Kamloops and it was a fantastic game. Three periods, one overtime, and then it went to a shootout. In the end the home team (Vancouver) won. It was an awesome game.

They play with such heart and their emotions run high. It’s a different game than NHL. These kids aren’t skating around with the knowledge that there are millions in contracts already set in stone. They are trying to make it to the big league and tempers run close to the surface.

I saw these flags up in the roofline at the Pacific Coliseum last night. There was no American team on the ice. The game was between Vancouver and Kamloops. But those two flags serve to remind us that Canada and the US are friendly neighbours. Even if we aren’t always so friendly to each other. We gripe and we snipe like all neighbours do. But I think in the end we do actually appreciate each other.
