Monsters with No Manners

by The Philosophical Fish

I live with three monsters, four if you include Kirk, I don’t though.

I’m trying to get healthy, so I took a nap this afternoon, or at least I tried. Gizmo is in his cage systematically trying to reduce his ladder to sawdust. He’s getting there. I keep trying to give him other things to destroy but that only seems to reinforce his resolve to completely obliterate the thing that allows him to traverse the length of his cage. Beauty without brains.

So I gave up and rolled over and tried to ignore the gnawing that is wearing on my brain like Chinese water torture.

Shortly thereafter there is a heavy thud on the foot of the bed. Uh oh. Loki is up.

He stalks to the head of the bed and begins to stand on my head and stuff his wet nose into my face crying little moans all the while. I roll over and he steps on my head to get to the other side. Nice. I put a pillow in front of my face because the wet nose is a little gross when it is stuffed into your own. He stands on the pillow, then worms his way around behind and a whisker slips up my nostril. Try that sometime, it’s not pleasant I can tell you. You will feel it all the way to your toes. More brainless beauty.

Our old cat, Tiko, now he had beauty, brains and, when he chose, good manners. If I was sick he would curl up and keep me company, never complaining, just seemingly wishing me well. Of course if I touched him the wrong way I would be looking for a bandaid relatively quickly….

No, with this new one, it’s all about Loki. No matter what shape you are in, when it’s time for a Loki love session, get up and put up.

And then there is Milo. Finally he joins the fray. He hops down to the window perch, snuffles a bit, then sneezes out a big juicy oogie for me to try to find in the dark corner of the bedroom. This one has brains, he’s just slowly blowing them out of his nose at random moments.

I love pets.

Who needs children.
