My Personal Star Wars Episode

by The Philosophical Fish

TussleThis morning I realized that I live with movie characters. Star Wars Movie characters to be exact. Normally the little fur factory (Loki) bothers Kirk at somewhere between 5 and 6 am. He’s not really bright, but he has a seriously freaky sense of time. Enough so that we often wonder if he can actually read a clock. Probably not, but that stomach of his is on a 12 hour timer. And it refuses to waver from the current 6 am and 6 pm settings he has it on.

I’m a little on the lucky side when Kirk goes out of town. Because I’m usually the dinner chef, Kirk is the one who gets all the early morning attention. So when he’s away, the little furry genius takes awhile to figure out what to do.

So where does Star Wars factor in?

Well, I don’t know. it just occurred to me in a morning stupor today as Loki was sitting next to my head putting on his pathetic show. If he can’t get his way by stuffing his sopping wet nose in any orifice he can reach he resorts to pathetic puss. He sits facing a bit away from you and sort of cries. It’s the only way I can describe it. He doesn’t meow. He sort of …. “moans” in a high pitched manner.

And it was while he was whining that Star Wars popped into my head. Specifically, the scene in the original Star Wars with Mark Hamill as Luke… in that wonderfully awful part where he kicks the sand and whines like a three year old child…. “But I wanted to go into Tashi Station and pick up some power converters!” (I realize I am somewhat of a geek to actually know that line…but I DID see it something like 10 times the year it came out… and it is a wonderfully awful moment in the original trilogy). Luke was blonde, Loki is blonde.

By the same token, when he isn’t whining for breakfast he is usually either sleeping or getting into some crazy trouble as he leaps after flies and trips over things in the process. In that respect, he is a modern day Jar Jar Binks. Jar Jar has big ears, so does Loki.

But then we have Milo. He is generally reserved, sometimes rather sneaky and evil when he harasses Loki and tries to hamstring him. But his alter ego is loving and sweet, a little bit playful, and when he looks at you with those big round greenish eyes… you want to do anything for him. Yes, Milo is a Star Wars Jekyll and Hyde. Darth Vader meets Wicket (the Ewok). Milo is dark and mysterious, yet has those big wide, childlike eyes that feign innocence oh so well…..

Well, that was today’s assessment anyway. Could be something different tomorrow. Depends on how much sleep I get….

Oh, there’s always lots of action….but I rarely have a camera…and when I do, everything usually comes out blurry because there is SO much action! And the chair…sort of new…it’s about a year old and we have discovered that it’s a fantastic fabric in that it withstands them! The bi-cast leather couch and love seat we also bought at the same time have not fared so well…..

My dogs do the same thing. Guess it’s not a species thing. It’s even funnier when they run on the tile with their little paws. Totally sliding into everything.
